Rhodes: The island of the Knights of St. John and home of one of 'the Seven Wonders of the World', the Colossus of Rhodes which used to straddle the narrow entrance to the port. Rhodes is the largest island of the Dodecanese and has a history of trade between Asia, Europe and Africa.
The numerous castles, impressive fortifications and the mediaeval character of the town pay homage to it's history of being settle and fortified by the Minoans, Persians, Arabs, Turks, Italians and the Crusaders.
