The Savarona was commissioned and built at a cost of $4 million at the Blohm and Voss shipyards in
Hamburg in 1931 by Emily Roebling Cadwallader, whose family money came from building the Brooklyn
and Golden Gate bridges. Mrs. Cadwallader sold Savarona to the Turkish Government in 1938 and
was used by the Turkish President Mustafa Kemal Atatürk who was ill at that time and spend six weeks
aboard Savarona and there he held all his cabinet meetings up to his death November 10, 1938. The
Turkish Navy started using Savarona as a training ship after the end of World War II. In 1989 Mr.
Kahraman Sadikoglou leased the yacht for 49 years and started a three year refurbishing race and a
multi million dollar cost to bring Savarona at her former glory. This was achieved with the help of
Donald Starkey who designed her interior. And today Savarona proudly sails again the waters bringing
satisfaction to those seeking the ultimate enjoyment in luxury yachting.
