Monemvasia: The rock island of Monemvasia jutting out of the sea is a spectacular, breathtaking sight. The old fortified village is of Byzantine origin although the Venetians re-built most of it. The narrow cobblestones streets take you back to another era and are lined with quaint restaurants and bars and interesting shops. If you are feeling adventurous, make the climb up the stones steps to the church of Aghia Sofia containing very important frescoes and take in the magnificent panoramic view of the Peloponnese.
